For two or more users a central database server is required.
The server must be a dedicated server so it can not be used
as a workstation, it can however be used to operate other server
tasks such as file and print sharing, internet server, mail
server, fax server, etc.
PERFECT Balance 2004 requires SQL Server 2000. For information
regarding SQL Server 2000 please see www.microsoft.com/sqlserver.
We currently do not support SQL Server 2005.
Windows Small Business Server 2003 (Premier Edition)

2003.

2004 Server. They are very stable and have operated successfully

If you have an existing server with less memory/disk space PERFECT
Balance 2004 is likely to run on it, but you may need to upgrade
the capacity further down the track.
PERFECT Balance 2004 communicates using TCP/IP. You should ensure
that this network protocol is installed on both the client and
server computers.
It is highly recommended that all your computer data including
PERFECT Balance 2004 is backed up on a regular basis.
We recommend using a DVD or tape back up system that can automatically
run each night. In smaller offices a large removable cartridge
drive can also be used. The backup system should have at least
one Gigabyte (1000 MB) capacity to allow for easy backups and
expansions in the future. Backup systems are now inexpensive
so they should always be a part of a business computer system.
If you have a computer administrator, or a person/organisation
that supplies computers to your practice or acts as a consultant
we would be happy to discuss any technical issues with them,
but please note the backup of your data is your responsibility.
Our recommendation regarding Windows 95/NT/98/Me and Windows
2000/Windows XP Professional
The PERFECT Balance 2004 system will put more load on a computer
than most systems. The reason is that PERFECT Balance 2004 uses
a secure database environment.
Windows 95/NT/98/Me/XP Home
Windows 2000 Professional/Windows XP Professional
A minimum of 256 MB of memory is required. If you are purchasing
new hardware 512 MB or more of memory is recommended. This will
allow memory for other common legal systems.
When setting up these client machines the users need to be
logged on at minimum as a power user. If they are logged on
as anything but a power user or an administrator PERFECT Balance
2004 will not operate. If you have any questions regarding this
please call our office.
PERFECT Balance 2004 Client is a very thin piece of software
and all data is stored on the server, so disk space is not an
issue on the client machines.
PERFECT Balance 2004 requires a minimum screen resolution of
1024x 768 and recommends the use of minimum 17" monitors. PERFECT
Balance 2004 is a modern multi window application so it is capable
of taking advantage of larger monitors if available.
These are special types of server systems that are useful for
running branch offices and for working remotely. PERFECT Balance
2004 will run with these systems but there are special requirements.
Please contact us if you are considering either of these options.
Some people recommend the use of Terminal Services in the main
office as an alternative to upgrading work station computers.
We have found from experience that this never works as well
as intended, despite the power of the server.
While technically possible, PERFECT Balance 2004 does do not
support a configuration using Terminal Services in the main
office as it is not as fast and reliable as conventional computers
and substantially increases support costs.
If you are in need of an IT Consultant to set up your computer
system and are not sure of where to start, please contact us
and we can refer you to a consultant who is familiar with the
PERFECT Balance 2004 system and highly recommended.
If there are any questions about the above information then
please do not hesitate to contact us. We are more than happy
to discuss hardware specifications with you to ensure the installation
of PERFECT Balance 2004 is as easy as possible.
